Passive or Active RCD?

I believe that a passive RCD will not trip when power is lost to it, while a active one will.
An active RCD would be useful for things like power tools, ie. if power was restored it could be dangerous.

They're also known as latching and non-latching.
Latching ones are good for equipment that you do want to come back on after a power failure (e.g. heating).
Non-latching ones are good for equipment that you don't want to come back on after a power failure, e.g. chainsaws.

As I understand it, Passives work alone, whereas Actives work in pairs -they send a beam from one to another.
Can't work out if that's a joke I don't get, a reply to the wrong thread or whether we overdid the reprogramming last night.
