Hi

I have a friend looking to take over a dental practice (commercial shop front type) located in a residential area which has shops either side.

After changing the name of the practice, we want to change the colour scheme of the sign (above the door way but across the width of the shop) which names the practice, phone number, web address etc. My questions are, in relation to planning permission:

1. Is there any specific rule on colour schemes or design layout and do I need permission to change the sign above a shop?

2. Does the brightness of the sign have impact on planning regulations?

3. Is having a large TV display in the shop front window with a video playing (for advertising) permitted?

Thanks.

You need to check the original PP for the sign, to see what type was permitted. Yes, illumination is a planning and environmental issue .

Window advertising is also a planning issue, along with other potential local bye laws, and the actual advertisement will be subject to national advertising regulation or contractual controls.
