Next job is to board out the underside of stairs !

Looks difficult to fit a batten down the middle and am worried about screws going through the treads and risers.

Overall width is 810mm

If I batten across the stairs at right angles to the stringers with 2x1 battens at 300 ctrs would this be enough or should i be supporting the board edges continuosly down the stringers?

I think I have worked out the winder - where the pitch intersects the newel post will form a downstand then a flat bit then a small sloping section down to the existing t&G. I will frame this with 2x2 and secure to wall and newel post

Any other suggests/ advice welocme

Cheers

J
