PLEASE HELP, need professional advice

The rating of the protective device should be given in the manufacturers instructions, I would expect a 40A MCB with 30mA RCD protection or a 40A 30mA RCBO to be required.

8500/240 = 35.42A so no, a B32 isn't big enough.
Best advice though is to get an electrician to do the job who is a member of a competent person scheme hence can self certify compliance with the building regs as this work is notifiable to your LABC under part P.

If you dont know what the above equation means, then sorry but you shouldnt be touching it!!
Sorry :|
And you'll need to inform building control, barring other optioins which you couldnt do anyway, because your not qualified.
But we could always forget this convo. ever happened

Basically, I'm just wondering if this is the going rate. I'm willing to pay- as long as I'm not being ripped off. I'm not a sparky so I don't know. I watch a lot of consumer programmes with people getting done by cowboys. Which is why I'm asking on here. Perfectly willing to admit I've got no clue about equations etc.

If he's not altering the existing cables, I understand notification will not be required. Sounds like an existing circuit is in place and a shower is replacing another.

£50 for job doing safely and right while you put your feet up. BARGAIN!
Just make sure the electrician is an electrician!

is he just trying to get £50 out of me
In a nice way, yes.

That's what we do.

We install peoples appliances,
test it functions correctly and is electrically safe
because they don't have the equipment or know how,
fill out some pieces of paper recording these things and
then people give us money. :)

I will get the job done properly now I know the price is right. I have the answers I came for now so thank you discussion closed.

What was your question?

In a nutshell
Question was regarding fitting a 8.5kW shower to 32A MCB, with additional mention of terminating cable at pull cord and appliance.
Gave impression that existing 10mm cable was in place.
Was concerned that information given by a sparky to him, recommending higher rated breaker was correct and if a fee of £50 to complete job was a rip-off.

Shower25 - when you post on a forum, once your question has been answered please do not go and remove your original question from the thread just because you think it has been answered.

This makes a mess of the entire thread, readers who have only just come to the site now read the thread with no idea what it is about.

If someone else has a similar question to yours a search would show it and the answers that were given.

Someone may come along who has really important information

However now they cannot as now you have removed the opening post.

This thread might as well be removed, the posters who replied to you might as well not bothered now.

No, not at all.
Please re-instate your question in the opening post.
It's not up to you to close a discussion, even if you were the one who started it.
