Poor quality kitchen electrical work by a professional

Although I agree with what you are trying to say the wiring regulations (BS7671) are not a statutory document.

But in a court of law, BS7671 would be considered the acceptable standard. A customer of mine successfully claimed against a bunch of so-called electricians on little more than a nic-eic report highlighting the contraventions.

In the same way a landlord doesn't have a legal obligation to have an installation periodically inspected, but has a legal obligation to provide a safe electrical system, and a periodic inspection is by and large the only method of compliance.

Statutory law or not, BS7671 is what it always comes back to. the only other method would be to prove you have an alternative safe system/set of rules.

securespark, i think gas services must be 150 mm from accessories, cu, switches etc or 25mm from a cable, unless gas or cable provided with an intumescent/insulating surround. I got my part p assessment on 17th nov and realised a light switch in meter cupboard was too close. OSG page 18 and 62. though 7671:2008 528.3.2 to 528.3.4 does not state this explicitly

Thats only if the pipe is under a certain size, if its over the certain size ( which i cant remember for the life of me) you have to be 50mm away. Also like you said all accessories have to be atleast 150mm away

Also just wondering if anyone knew if i put a mains in say 50mm away from a gaspipe but boxed the CU in and made it accessable with a door would that be fine or will it stille have to be 150 away?

Hi. The work is on a new ring that he installed. I don't think they're on an RCD. Looking at the fuse it states "5A M1 15A-45A M2".

Thats the breaking capacity... and if memory serves then I reckon you are looking at a wylex push button device? :D ... what does it say on the front of it?

Some pictures of inside the sockets would be interesting, and give us more of an idea of the quality of the work.
