Poorly fitting syphon

Could a Syphon were the handle is possibly not fitting correctly to the hook cause strain and cause the seal between the syphon and the cistern to leak.

Seems ok at the start then leaks even when not flushed. Thinking of swapping for a flush valve and push button

If it’s not leaking when flushed, the it seems to me the syphon backnut, silicone where the tail is, or something obstructing the seal. If it’s any of these, the. Swapping out for a flush valve might not achieve anything.

If the syphon is properly and firmly connected to the base of the cistern with an intact donut seal, I don't think even a badly fitted handle and hook will cause it to leak. Has this just started to happen or has it been an ongoing issue that you've just tolerated?
To fit a push button operated flush valve you'll need to remove the cistern from the toilet anyway, so that would be an oppotunity to fit a new donut rubber washer between cistern and toilet that should stop the leak.

It seemed ok at the start. Then after a few flushes started to leak. Even when not flushed

I've looked at it from a side angle does seem to be leaking from above the close couple plate. Though wasn't before fitted it tested it.

I've only fitted a few but allways put s good smear of clear sealan around the syphon after inserting it in the cistern and before putting on the securing nut

Was a 1.5 inch syphon I took out. Hole in cistern sort of looks between 1.5 and 2.

Hard to tell from photo, could be ideal could be twyford couldn’t be generic. Is there a make on the toilet cistern?

The flush operation doesn't appear to be straining the syphon.

Could it be the fact I fit a close coupled kit that has indentation for the bolts the one I took out was flat. Like this

Its a flat close coupled back plate that was in and large rubber circular washer. Toilet had dimples in to except the bots. Instead of indentations on the close couple kit.
