Hi, back again any idea's. A Flomasta 25902SX Two Channel Programmer, 6 connections on the back plate N & L are obvious but 1 2 3 4 not so, a "Y" plan set up. Anyone know which of the 1 2 3 4 numbers goes to which numbers in the junction box, help please.
It could be to any number in the junction box, there is no standard that must be followed, you will need to trace the wiring with a y plan wiring diagram to see what needs to be connected where. The 1234 on the programmer should be standard though.
Hi Echo the husky, thanks for your response. I can understand most of the wiring what I don't find easy is which connections in the back plate is, C/W off H/W on CH off C/H on plus some of the connections in the back plate don't get wired to at all. Thanks.
If it is the industry standard backplate:
1 Hot water off (wires to grey wire on 3 port valve)
2 Heating off (not used for y plan)
3 Hot water on (wires to common on cylinder stat)
4 Heating on (Wires to room stat)
Did the programmer not come with a manual or is it not a new one?
Hi, yes it is a new one but all the paperwork tells you is how to set it up when it's working, the trick is to know if your wiring is OK because they don't tell you a thing about wiring the back plate. I had just put the programmer into the Lifestyle back plate which is already wired up, and looking at what you have given me about the wiring, it looks like the Lifestyle back plate could be wired wrong. I'm just going to lay down in a dark room for a few hours, then tomorrow I will check the back plate wires in the junction box, before I blow my brains out. Thanks for your help, fingers crossed I will let you know. THANKS again.
In that case it will use a standard back plate wired as in Echo's earlier post. The Flomasta uses the same wiring so it's just a case of unclipping the Lifestyle and replacing it with the Flomasta.
(I have read your topic on rewiring the junction box as a 'proper' Y plan where you say it is all working correctly now. This implies that the Lifestyle is wired correctly)
Hi D_Hailsham, thanks for that. I'm going through the wiring today, and putting in some new wiring where I'm not happy to the "Y" plan as Echo and yourself have said. I think there is a problem with the "Y" plan I printed from the net, I think I have managed to attach a copy of the one I WAS working from. I have found another "Y" plan SUNDIAL, the boiler is wrong on this one I only have 3 wires the Sundial one shows 5.
It varies, boilers are all different so the wiring diagram is only a guide. An old boiler needs only an earth, neutral and a switched live. Newer boilers require that plus a permanent live. Other newer boilers also require a separate connection to feed the pump so the boiler can control a pump overrun. What model boiler do you have?
Hi Echo, the boiler is an Ideal Classic RS 40. I installed it about 22 years ago, never done one before just worked on drawings from someone I knew, and picking the brains of central heating company's, and it worked straight off. Worked fine since, just the odd problems when items went wrong. Cheers.
I thought you said earlier that you had sorted the wiring.

I'm confused! What has five wire? In your latest diagram the boiler has three wires, which is what the RS40 has. Are you saying your boiler has five wires connected?
Hi D_Hailsham, I'm changing some of the wiring because when I first set it up the old wiring was red for live black for earth. Over the years changing thing here and there with todays wiring brown & blue it's easy to make mistake's, so all to brown & blue now. I wired it all up to the SUNDIAL "Y" plan yesterday, except for the boiler wiring as the SUNDIAL plan shows a 5 wire boiler, and as you say my RS40 only has 3 wires. The hot water and heating came on fine, but the programmer was NOT even on. So back to the other "Y" plan.
The diagram you posted in post #9 is correct for your boiler. Nothing should be happening if the programmer is not on. Post photos of your programmer wiring and the wiring in the wiring centre.
Hi, Echo, thanks for that info. I'm leaving it till Monday for now, we have a multi fuel stove for heating and I can sort the hot water. I am going to work on the "Y" plan I posted as you said.
