PTFE on compression fittings

What is with this?

As far as im aware it can only get in the way, yet every where i go there are compresion fittings dorbed in PTFE. Not even just people doing a lash up on a tired olive, but new instalations with PTFE hanging out the side? Including the work of profesionsals or people that should atlease know better.

Use liquid PTFE on the olive and leave for 30 minutes to cure. Keep it off your tools though.

There is no need to use PTFE tape on olives and the makers do not recommend it. Some plastic pipe manufacturers say when using compression fittings on their pipe to use PTFE tape. That is the only place I have seen a maker recommend it.

I'm not DP, he's a very highly regarded gas engineer. Nor am I the OP on this thread.
