Public holiday - State funeral

I passed from the palace the other day and overheard a woman saying that she'd brought some expensive flowers for the queen.
Then she was saying how her mother would've liked to go, but she's in a retirement home.
She carried on saying that she had not seen her for over a year.
The hypocrisy!
She doesn't care about her own mother and then she brings flowers to someone she never met.
FFS!
Sickening and sounds fake but sadly it's too believable.

Hopefully we won't get the death threats this time - like those issued to some businesses because they chose to stay open on Diana, Lady Spencer's funeral day.

I'm taking it as a mark of respect. Easy to say that though - I'm a pensioner! When I worked full time I'd have taken it, despite losing a day's money

I'm not particularly fussed about the change in our Monarch. I'll probably watch the ceremony though.

At least then the radio stations can stop just playing Adel and Snow Patrol on loop.

On ClassicFM it's Abide With Me. Always reminds me of Cup Final day.

Abide with Me always makes me feel like cuttig my ears off or slashing my wrists to get away from it! Such a dreary, monotonous dirge

So, will all the anti-monarchists on here be taking the day off for the funeral or will they be sticking to their principals and working through?

I often work on public holidays, does that make me an anti-monarchist.
What about the emergency services, are they anti-monarchists?
What about all the essential workers, are they all anti-monarchists?

You do talk some daft rubbish sometimes.
