Putin, arse, elbow

If people want to think Russia thought Kyiv in particular might just fall over I wouldn't disagree with that. It didn't.

This page uses a strategic study group. You can scroll to the end of it and back track the war. Part way up you will find this

  • Ukrainian forces defeated a Russian operation to isolate Kyiv from the west, recapturing the Hostomel military airport from Russian VDV (Airborne) troops after several counterattacks throughout the day.
  • Russian forces are rapidly advancing north from Crimea, securing Kherson city. Their deepest penetration to date is about 60 kilometers.
News sources at the time were Kyiv, Kyiv and neglecting what else was going on. The page also mentions what was said early on and gives an opinion before Putin did his stuff. News picks out what is likely to grab attention. Propaganda from all sorts adds to that. It's pretty clear Russia's aim was Donbas and Crimea aspects. Not that this means they will succeed or that how they have gone about it is sensible.

The convoy - well that is what it did do. Why's etc. I don't have a e clue and neither do you.

Well if you want to believe that a miles long military convoy parked up and the Russians went into the woods for a party / booze up

Than you crack on :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

And yes I agree you are clueless

You seem devoid of common sense

THat strangely moved having run out of fuel, been attacked and all sorts while the Russians were having a party in the adjacent woods.
It's a little known fact that Petrol tanks are refillable.

Russia eventually gave up on pushing their column forward to Kyiv and pulled it back. Or do you think they just decided to have a picnic in hostile territory and then drive home?

The fact that Russian paratroopers were dropped on the airport near Kiev suggests the aim was to take Kiev itself. Their incompetence in not supporting the armoured column made it relatively easy for the Ukranians to retake the airport and see off the column.

Looks like the sanctions are working the rouble at a 7 year high against the dollar hit a 5 year high against the euro and the worlds best performing currency this year ;)

Seems like that Lithuania has now upset the Russians

Some emabargo caper ??

Russians consider it a hostile act and there will be serious consequences they say ???

That's great news, they'll be able to import stuff cheaper now! No wonder their economy is booming.

“People are being prevented from unloading rubles… That’s artificially propping up the value.” But these capital controls are unsustainable for an indefinite period of time”

“The ruble’s value is also not the best barometer of how effective the sanctions are. “Irrespective of the moves in the ruble, the sanctions are hurting Russia’s economy hard,” Jackson said. “Inflation is already surging, the banks are under strain and financial conditions have tightened dramatically”

The embargo applies only to items on the list of EU sanctions being sent to the exclave of Kaliningrad.
The Russians will probably respond with an embargo on fur hats, or something.

It's odd that was just done. It relates to transport of goods through Lithuania by rail from Russia to Kaliningrad which has some bearing on Russia Baltic Fleet not sure what. News says home, wiki a bit vaguer.

It means that Kaliningrad can no longer get:

What goods cannot be imported from Russia to the EU?
The list of sanctioned products includes among others:

crude oil and refined petroleum products, with limited exceptions (with phase out of 6 to 8 months)
coal and other solid fossil fuels (as there is a wind-down period for existing contracts, this sanction will apply as from August 2022)
steel and iron
wood, cement and certain fertilisers
seafood and liquor (e.g. caviar, vodka)
From Russia unless it comes by Sea or Air. Sea is massively slower and whilst the northernmost Russian ports should be working at the moment they aren't available year round. Air might not be possible either. I can't find a clear statement but it also implies that weapons and spare parts for Military kit wouldn't be allowed.

Plus Kaliningrad is an export import corridor for Russia. It's far less useful as a port if it isn't able to move items from ships back to the main Russian territory.

It has the potential to be very damaging to Kaliningrad.
