It's been a long time, but I wanted to update this thread.
I have now got some definite dates from MK about the introduction of various ranges of wiring accessories.
1947 brought the first BS1363 plug.
The brown range of light switches (the ones with shorter stumpier rockers, rather than the longer curvier ones) was released in 1955.
These were followed by ivory versions.
I don't have a date for the other style of accessories, but it has to be somewhere between 1956 and 1971.
Logic was introduced in 1971.
A redesigned Safetyplug came in 1972.
Masterseal came in 1993.
Logic Plus came in 1996. MK confirmed to me that 1991 was indeed the year that they started to carry out customer clinics, asking electricians to evaluate their prototype Logic Plus accessories, which is when I first clapped eyes on Logic Plus.
The Edge range (flatplate) came in 1999.
The Aspect range (screwless) came in 2003.
Prestige 3D trunking made its first appearance in 2006.
Echo range (self-powered) arrived in 2008.
Redesigned Masterseal (Plus) range came in 2011.
The 100 millionth socket was made in 2014.
The Elements range (made of different materials) came in 2014.
If you're referring to the round switches mounted on wooden patress then yes way, way before 1965. However Dad fitted ivory flush switches in the house we moved into in 1961 when I was just 6, I only vaguely recall the old black switches so I suspect they were changed quite soon after we moved in. My first house [purchased in 1983] had some very ancient ivory flush switches.
Sadly I don't know any of the makes.
