From what I understand the trust means Rayner and her ex husband are effectively the “owners” until said child is 18 and hence why it’s still considered partly hers.

And hence SDLT is payable @ 5%

But....if I planned on buying a second house id do as the solicitors advised me....but I suppose in her position you would have to be 100% sure you dont mess up.

BTW SDLT was 3% but Labour increased it to 5% in their 2024 budget

Other posters have pointed out that it seems to be an extra 5% now. I missed the increase. It seems to have happened last October.

There's no evidence that's the case.

Her divorce was finalised a while ago and she then put her remaining interest in her house in a trust for her son.
