re pointing a house, whats the cost?

All well and good and is perhaps do-able, especially if you have a hip-roof house. I wouldn't like to be the one who has to do the gable end with the tall chimney though!
I think Banjo must be warming to the fact it's going to cost £2k+. Surely?
