regs book options?

Most BS documents are available freely from BSOL if you log in via your local library, they come as read only documents.

but thats easily solved

7671 is not though.

Got 1361, 1362 & 1363 in soft copy which were a gift, and which I do not sell copies of.

So someone bought pdf's of these specifications from BSI, and then gave them to you without keeping copies themselves.

At current prices:
BS1361 £120
BS1362 £120
BS1363-1 £168
BS1363-2 £168
BS1363-3 £180
BS1363-4 £138

That was a very generous gesture. Of course any other scenario would represent copyright theft to the value of some £894, but I'm sure you wouldn't have any truck with that!

Did I hear a pin drop?

As has been said above - apply to a library and you can get access to BSonline to view documents. My nearest one which I am registered to is in Manchester!

Well it seems that they have changed things since I last looked, now you can only view them online & no save them locally. :(

It still allows me to download a protected copy of the document - once you log on go to My Subscriptions, search for the BS number and then click view document it gives me the option to open or save the pdf file.

HOw recently did you check ?

Its currently not letting me, it has a new viewing system.

It was nice.

I don't know what his terms of use were for the documents.

Not knowingly.

There used to be an expression which began "Ignorance of the law..." or something like that.

Still, I think the lesson to be drawn is not to call people foul names for doing something that you do yourself, but don't like to admit to.

Apparently, this highly dodgy ebay item has been re-listed, and apparently, one can cheekily offer the criminal seller significantly less than his buy it now price and he'll accept.

Not that I'd have anything at all to do with it, mind you. Afterall, I've never copied a computer program, or an audio cassette, or broken a speed limit in a vehicle, or consumed alcohol underage, or kept change given in error...

And there's another one called clutching at straws.

I think the lesson you need to learn is that there is a big difference between buying what is obviously pirated material and being given PDF files of old BS standards.

Which, BTW, were not protected, and had nothing on them to indicate any kind of restrictions.

[EDIT]Typo corrected[/EDIT]

It must be dodgy because it does not exist as an available PDF unless it has been scanned in by someone.

I think the old editions should be made available Free Of Charge in PDF format to those who want it.

Current edition should stay as it is.

That would be good.

I could free up a good amount of shelf space then.

Maybe you can still buy them on CD or something.

I think there ought to be a re-think on the pricing/availability of some standards.

Fair enough to charge for ones which manufacturers selling goods for profit need to be able to make their products comply, but ones which describe ways of doing <activities> safely, particularly where those <activities> are often carried out by non-professional or non-commercial people, should be, if not free, then priced low enough for price not to be a significant obstacle to ownership.

AFAIK in the USA the NEC is available for free.
