do they do the regs book in a hardback?
or perhaps in a folderised version to make it more durable?

mine's all dog eared and nasty after only a year or so..

I think they do a version on CD.. do you think I would be able to print it off if I got the CD version, or is it protected somehow? ( propriety viewing program with no print option )

could I take the CD version somewhere and get it printed and bound in a nice leather binding?

( ok that last one was sarcastic )

I don't think they do a hard back and if they did, what a price
CD version sure they do, might be worth looking on www theiet.org

I've got a clear plastic cover on my regs book. I think I came across it in a stationary shop. It's been wrapped around the last three editions/amendments and protects it fairly well.

You could buy a copy of the regs (cheaper than a CD), cut the spine and place each page in a plastic wallet in a ring binder.
My red book isn't immaculate and has stuff stuck into it but it isn't anywhere near as bad as the old brown 16th!

recon I could cut the spine off one with a metal guilotine? if it's rated to cut 6mm steel it should handle a little paper right?

What's wrong with having a tatty regs book? At least it shows it's being used
Nothing worse than a shiny new regs that comes out once a year for the scheme provider's inspection.
I keep mine in a plastic wallet along with updates, manufacturer's info on mcbs/mccbs and guidance notes.

For sure - and they'll be PDF files of scanned page images, so no ability to search for text, or copy it out, no hotlinks in the TOC or index...

The 16th was available as loose leaf in a ring binder - they seem to have dropped that for the 17th.

But anyway - in answer to ColJack- yes:

I'm sure other suppliers are available.

And despite ColJack's joke, I think that as an actual BS publication (i.e. as a formal printed copy of BS 7671:2008 rather than as the IEE Wiring Regulations) you can get a very expensive leather bound hardback like wot reference libraries would put on their shelves.

I have academic access to free downloads of most BS documents. Unfortunately BS 7671 is excluded from this service :(. You do get a nice link to where you can buy it though :).

Might be some smart a**e doing CDs with PDF on ebay

I've just found this...

Ebay linky

Probably not strictly legal, but dont worry, bidder IDs hidden :)

Hmmmm... kinda tempted... but I'd hate to fund a cheeky ba***rd criminal.
