Religion? how many decades has it got?

It is difficult for us to imagine what it is like to grow up in a strict Muslim nation.

I have a certain amount of experience of Muslims. I was born and brought up in Bradford and worked for a few years in Saudi Arabia.

As far as I'm concerned, life as a Muslim is influenced not only by peer- and family-pressure, but more importantly by fear. Pretty much the same as life as a mediaeval Christian was.

All things being equal, I expect they'll catch up with us in a few centuries. Give them time.

I am an atheist, yet I believe I have more 'Christian values' than many 'Christians' I have met.
Likewise JBR.

I think all religions are an obnoxious set of beliefs. I’ve said it before but when you consider, (which none of us truly can), the sheer scale of blood letting, rape, sexism and persecution over millennia, and the loss to other better and more constructive pursuits, religions are positively disgusting!

I mean look at us all here now; wasting more time on it when we could be learning how to make a cheesecake or something...

i dont think religion is at fault
its the way people claim to be doing it in the name off religion but in fact are abusing the name

Yes, but hang on dude... The, (religious), trouble there is it’s vague and as such you can read anything in it to justify your cause – as indeed ‘they’ do.

If any Bible or scriptures contained an ounce of sense, (or just common sense would have been nice), it would be concise and unambiguous.

However, instead it’s anything but! I mean how many different ways are there of telling people to live a good life? Well, about a million words apparently. How pathetic and ridiculous!

Our lives are not so complicated that it needs hundreds or thousands of ground rules and contradictions.

Here’s the start of my book, (one page long), out in print near a book store near you soon: -

THE BIBLE

1) Treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself
2) If in doubt about any situation see rule number 1
3) If you meet someone who is illiterate tell them about rule number 1 and hope they’re not a cretin.

Excellent. Mind you, I don't suppose it will work quite as you intended if read by a masochist!

Certainly not. Religion and emotions (and social values for that matter) are quite different things.
Yes they are different but...
If you believe that logic or science will somehow replace the need for religion then you may as well believe that love is also an illogical and pointless emotion, that can be scientifically eradicated.

My analogy is based purely on the fact that we are human beings so being irrational and illogical is a human trait and will always exist.

But if we were visited by aliens from another galaxy, I think it would wipe out religion straight away.

Andy

Yes. People would at last see the truth.

What truth would that be? Don't be shy, spill the beans. We all want to hear it.

That 'god' (and his angels) was an alien visitor who advanced our civilisation by performing scientific actions that were seen as miracles by our ancestors.

It's at least as believable as the Christian version of events.

Oh "that truth" I thought you might have had some new revelations for us the way you'd written that.

All things being equal, I expect they'll catch up with us in a few centuries. Give them time.
The meek will inherit the earth.

Given time, the western way of life bubble will burst.

Oil will eventually run out as will all the glorious westernised things we take for granted.

Those 'backward' muslim types, along with anyone else that lives a primitive life will be the ones to survive.

Along with the cockroaches.

Surely when oil runs out, whether that is 100 or 1000 years away, it's surely the next big turning poing in civilisation (barring plague, meteorite or alien attack), and the scientifically advanced west (and China) will be the ones with the 'alternative' solution, not muslims who will pray their pants off to no avail !!!

Oil running out has no relevance to a goat herder in the desert.
It's the greedy westerners who will be doing the praying.

I've just been watching a TV documentary about using certain bacteria to make an oil substitute.

Perhaps Allah sent them to help us!

Precisely Norcs.
All these people denouncing religion in the name of their 'superior' way of life is comical when you think that it is all based on something as tenuous as oil.

Those that have embraced their faith will thrive long after the western way of life has expired.

As long as they aren't females who want to do radical things, like getting educated.
