No information on the tin about how to remove, or even a phone number for technical support? There are so many different products around it is always better to contact the company that makes it.
You'd be very lucky to get a decent finish using solvent. Chances are it would dissolve the product and make it penetrate even further into the wood.
Even woodstain (combined varnish and stain than doesn't penetrate very well) would leave residues in the grain that wouldn't look very nice. You'd need industrial quantities of paint stripper and a good stock of rubber gloves to take on a whole floor.
If it's been coloured with wood dye the sander is the only realistic option.
thanks guys looks like i will have to sand which is what i wanted to try and avoid as the boards have been sanded once already. incidently is there a recognised board thickness that i shouldnt go below if i do sand again
Don't know, but the cack-hands who lived here before me turned the front room into a wooden ploughed field that was under 1/2" in places. It felt so dodgy to walk on that I had to cover it with laminate. Great for draught proofing though.
