Hi Guys, my names John and I enjoy doing DIY (when I get round to it) and for a long time I have been putting off finishing/fixing this issue with the pictured part of the stairs to my attic.

All we want is for it to be tidy and neat but can’t for the life of me figure out what’s best to do?

If any of you are able to shine a light in this dark tunnel of DIY I would be truely greatfull!

Thankyou for replying Gonch69, I may seem a bit simple but how would I fill that gap in the right and what’s stair nosings?

This is a stair nosing but you can use MDF cut to size

Ahh I see, would taking out the new base rail that’s there existing make it look better? In your opinion how would I best go about filling and levelling off the bit gap on the right?

You would fit plater board in the then make good or use bonding plaster to build out an make good but might be a little deep for bonding plaster

I could always cut strips of plasterboard and then tidy it up possibly? Then I could use the stair nosing on top of the plasterboard maybe?
