Repeaters

You know, those smaller speed limit signs seen at regular intervals after a pair of large ones (ooh err!) mark a change in speed limit.

Well, I have seen fewer and fewer of them in South Manchester. Very often I can drive down a road I know has a limit in excess of 30mph yet there are no repeaters.

Is this a ploy by the council to

a) save money?

b) try to reduce traffic speed?

or

c) both?

I was actually only thinking about this yesterday morning. A road I have driven down for years at 30mph, I only found out it was 40mph last week or so, due to actually spotting the oh-so-hard to see 40mph sign!

I'm always driving down roads thinking, so what is the speed of this road then, nothing telling me?

Well, that's just it. You try and spot a repeater, there are none, but you see the lamp standards, so you think it must be 30.

Could have been stolen and weighed in for scrap. I think the signs are made of aluminium.

I believe a 30mph area dont have to have speed repeaters if its a built up area with street lighting.

Exactly: that is why I commented that if you see no repeaters, you assume 30.

iirc from the highway code book,if the street lamps are 100 yds away from each other,then its a 30mph zone.
