Whenever a ceiling rose needs to be replaced with a light fitting it always seems to end up as a half sloppy job.

Light fittings never seem to have the same fixing centres and almost never have adequate room for tidy connections.

I usually end up turning a suitable wooden pattress on a lathe but it can be a bit of a pain as they all end up different sizes.

Is there any kit on the market for this job ?

When I've had this problem, I've made wooden pattresses with a router (I don't have any turning skills, or a lathe). Using a router means there's no difficulty making them the same size.

However, I'm sorry I don't know of anything you can buy off the shelf for this.

Crazy innit ?

All this fuss about registration, Part P, 17th Edition, and they still allow people to create trashy work by design.

  :(
