Replacing kitchen under cupboard lighting

Our kitchen under cupboard lighting has always never really worked that well (halogen bulbs regularly failing, or at least come loose and not working). I read somewhere this was common due to moisture in the kitchen, and the constant banging of the cupboard doors above making the bulbs come loose.

There are a total of 9 bulbs driven by 4 transformers (see photos), all turned on/off with the light switch on the wall. It looks as though the connection between the transformers and light circuit can simply be unplugged and switched with new ones. Is this right?

Does the plug between the transformer and circuit come with the new transformer, or will it need fitting?

Any thoughts on what I should look to replace with (LED bulbs, LED strips, more halogen) with total cost (purchase, running, how long it's likely to last before needing to be replaced), and ease of fitting being priorities?

They tended to plug into little plastic socket, multi way splitters usually located on top of the cuboards, with the transformers, the G4 lamp and lampholders were never very reliable,
often sold at likes of wickes in packs of 3.
They are being phased out and replaced with led versions, worth a look in wickes at there show displays, and you will see them, they will also sell the Led kits, including new led drivers, possibly around 30 pound a kit of 3

The plug in your photo is removable and you may need to fit that yourself, alternatively a junction box could go there, something like a hager J804, the new drivers sometimes have no wire at all, in the supply end.
