now now kermit do not get all bitter and twisted answer the question i am qualified am i competant?

no probs gonzo, aint getting bitter and twisted just infuriated with the lack of respect to the law that the so called experts on this site show

as to wether you are competent, unable to surmise without running my eye over your personal development plan, visiting work that you have completed and, obviously, talking to you one to one.

well corgiman we can agree on one thing the law is ass until it is changed and all appliances/fittings to do with gas are only sold to approved/registered persons you are still going to get the diyers attempting repairs that can kill/injure their loved ones

bripl I totally concur with the above

the problem with all the regs that affect our and allied trades is that they are ill concieved and poorly researched and will result, short term, in a general exodus of a lot of experianced ops which leaves openings for these career changing pillocks to slot in to thier place, the results of which dont bare thinking about

PS thanks for the knock about highly enjoyable :D :D

Let's assume the new PCB is an exact likeness of the old one, has no user-adjustable components and non-reversible connectors. Our man (who seems at least to have a feel for wiring) draws the layout of the old PCB, carefully wires up the new one, secures it, switches on and checks that the boiler is working OK.

What would the average expert do differently?

Thanks bripl but I can't find that. (page 21 paragraph 45 to 47) Can you quote it?

Thanks Kev but I've got that. I can't see page 21 para 45 to 47 though?

like i said we dont make the rules we just have them inflicted upon us by a bunch of shiny ar*es in basingstoke

Thanks for that but this is all I can see in the gas regs:
Qualification and supervision
3. - (1) No person shall carry out any work in relation to a gas fitting or gas storage vessel unless he is competent to do so.

(2) The employer of any person carrying out such work for that employer, every other employer and self-employed person who has control to any extent of such work and every employer and self-employed person who has required such work to be carried out at any place of work under his control shall ensure that paragraph (1) above is complied with in relation to such work.

(3) Without prejudice to the generality of paragraphs (1) and (2) above and subject to paragraph (4) below, no employer shall allow any of his employees to carry out any work in relation to a gas fitting or service pipework and no self-employed person shall carry out any such work, unless the employer or self-employed person, as the case may be, is a member of a class of persons approved for the time being by the Health and Safety Executive for the purposes of this paragraph.
If you earn money doing gas work then you have to be Corgi registered but the regs don't say that diy is against the law. The regs as written do not define what competent means.
