Hello,
today I cleaned out my magnaclean - well worth doing - incredible red sludge & green bits - but I didn't take proper note or pic of valves before I started & now heating stone cold though boiler working - suspect MC still isolated. Should the wide part of the black isolator valves be vertical or horizontal when it is open? - hopelessly amateur problem I realise.

Is open/closed stamped on the valve body?

I think they should be horizontal?

Don't forget to bleed after.

Hope this helps Rob

I just went & moved to horizontal - heat now moving. It's not in a great position to see what's stamped. Now I'll go bleed again. Ta.

If it keeps getting sludged up you need to fix the corrosion problem you have rather than just cleaning out the result of it

If its collecting red oxides then that indicates they are recently formed!

Are you sure that you dont have any problems with air in your system?
