I'm adding a new external door into the utility room wall. The room was once a garage, "converted" at some point by previous owners. the wall in question is two skins of brick and block with a cavity between, the inner skin having been just built up of the garage floor, but has no wall ties. I'm reluctant to try to hang a double glazed door into this without tying the two skins together for strength. What's the best way to proceed? Or am i being over cautious?

It should have had ties, but if wall seems stable, i would use small sections of wall straps fitted to the reveal, tying both skins together in that area at least.

I used some when I made a window opening into a door. They were a stainless rod, threaded with rubber on. When you tightened a nut onto the thread it pulled the rubber tight and expanded it.
