Hi all

A quick question for those in the know.
I intend to get an electrician & plumber in to rewire and fit central heating in my house in the near future.
At the moment I have taken out the ground flloor ceilings. the noggins for ceing roses are up.
Would it be advantageous to have the place rewired and re-plumbed before installing the ceilings?
I appreciate that it gives good access to the joists without removing floorboards, but wanted to know if this is good practice, as future access to

cables & pipes would be limited.

I've posted this on electrical & plumbing forums for the respective trades to view.

Any advice / views / pointers would be greatly appreciated appreciated....Cheers.

My son has done all his plumbing and electrics from below I hope he will never have to re-access them wiring and plumbing (all plastic) should last until he is dead never mind me. He does not intend to alter anything once done.

I took down all of my downstairs ceilings as I wanted to insulate inbtween the joists, while I was there I had it re-wired. It was a lot quicker. Then doubled boarded.

The electrical cable is easily installed with ceiling down but with regards to plumbing depending on the pipe/tube being used it maybe considered easier to install from above, as plastic can be installed via holing joists but copper rigid tube would require notching out, and notches in joist should be formed in upper-side/top of joist.

As said, if you're going to re-wire anyway, do it while the ceilings are down, as it makes the job so easy.

IF you are considering downlights, you have a perfect opportunity to work out their position without hitting a joist.

I'd regard ceiling replacement as a perfect opportunity to get rid of any downlights already there.

Can't be - ceiling replacement is a perfect opportunity to get rid of any downlights already there.

It can be either, depending on what you want.

It cannot be wrong to say that it's a perfect opportunity to get rid of them - clearly it is.

Don't forget your alarm cables, TV coax, internet & phone CAT5s, door entry intercom, linked smoke detectors and maybe shotgun cable for CCTV.
