Hi,

I am extending my house and at the same time having it rewired by a friend who is a time served electrician who is not registered although he has done many rewires over the past 20 years.

We notified LABC paid the fees and the Building surveyor has done his first inspection after the initial first fix of all the cable runs. He was very satisfied and gave the go ahead for plastering work to go ahead!

We have since been notified by the LABC that they will not be arranging for test and inspection and that we have to arrange this on our own at our own cost!

Is this correct? Am I right in asuming that contravenes the way it is set out by the ODPM when Part P was introduced?

Can anybody point me to where I can find some more information?

May thanks

If he is a time served electrician then he should have no difficulty in inspecting, testing and certifying the work. It is, after all, an integral part of the job... and always has been. (Well, since 1937 at least.)

I can't point you in the direction of the right official documentation, but I know, from what's been said before, that it is the LABC's responsibility to finance the I+T+C of the work even if this involves sub-contracting the work - this is what you have paid your fee for!
