The first thing you should be doing is getting the yellow pages out and finding 3 local electricians. Make sure they are members of a compertent persons scheme ie NICEIC, NAPIT ect and ask them for a quote.

When you have the quotes, come back if you have any questions.

Goodness your not helping are you?

What have you got ? and what would you like?

Go through each room in the house and decide what's right and what might need changing regarding position and additions.

An audit of electrical requirements if you like.

So, something like:-

recpt 1 = 4 doubles
recpt 2 = 4 doubles
breakfast room = 2 doubles
kitchen = 6 doubles, a cooker point, a boiler point, spurs for appliances
hall grd = 1 double
hall 1st = 1 double
Bedrooms 1-4 = 3 doubles each
bathroom shaver, mirror light point
electric shower ?
laundry cupboard = immersion point and possible wiring for CH controls
loft = double point
smoke detection = 3 detectors, kitchen hall 1 and grd
garage
shed
outside lights
security system
heated flooring

etc

repeat process for lights, considering dual switching for hall lights, and bedroom to bedhead switching

Once you've done your audit then it's time to decide on fuse board CU size, positioning, cable access to floor voids, kitchen areas, laminate or finished flooring systems.

Then there's bonding requirements.

I'm not pumping up my job, but there's loads of factors to consider and before further help can be supplied YOU need to do some ground work / audit and debate, what you need beyond a mirror of your current wiring setup.

It's good to consider eye level sockets for LCD TV's, cat 5 cable for data use, TV distribution for multi room TV and even speaker cabling.

Do the job once, and have something that will cover your needs for 25 years +

1. Cabling.
2. Earthing.
3. Accessories.
4. Circuit protection.

I think that covers it.

also how much it cost for a four bedroom home.
It would cost one million pounds.

Chris & all, thanks for your advice , starting point for me. will come back later for further advice.

LOL.

Also do not forget that
"a rewire will cost about the same as a second hand car".

"a rewire will cost about the same as a second hand car"

I think it's worth mentioning that sometimes it can cost a little bit more.

But then sometimes it can cost a little bit less.

Yes that`s why I said "about" because It`s only an approximation you know.

That`s why I avoided saying it`s exactly the same price because I didn`t want to nail it down too precisely at this stage!

It all depends upon which car you want, a 2nd hand Ferrari can cost £100k easily lol.

Perhaps a Renault Megane
(not to forget the alloy wheels).

My 2nd car value fluctuates with the amount of petrol in the tank, does this rewire involve big rooms or small rooms, this may reflect in final quote.
