Right or wrong

So a ring with a spur of a twin socket connected at the fuseway is OK on a 30A/32A device with 2.5 T & E but if you remove the ring and just leave that one twin socket connected it somehow becomes unsafe/non compliant ?

On a ring (that may have 20 sockets, mostly with 2 legs of 2.5mm capable of carrying about 40A), there is a good reason for having a 32A MCB.

On a radial with one (double) socket, rated at 13A and fed by a single 2.5mm capable of carrying about 20A, is there a good reason?

If you look from the regs POV, as the plugtop fuse is providing the overcurrent protection and the MCB providing fault current protection then this setup complies
IMO, just not best practice.

Another cause of heat damage to the live pin socket is a loose fitting fuse in the plug. This heats up the pin and the socket. The plug fails and is replaced but the damage done by heat to the spring in the socket means the new plug makes poor contact with the socket. So the new plug remains OK but the socket fails.
