Roofing felt or breathable membrain

Simple question a roofer has completed work on My son roof - the roofer informed him that
breathable mem brain replaces felt now - I am not convinced ? That's my question

Correct, most new builds(in Scotland) have a breathable membrane installed instead of traditional felt.

Roofer is correct though tar felt still has its uses.

The only time we use felt (1f) now is when bat friendly underlay is specified
