when a installation is fitted with a condenser or a combi previously fitted
what do the regs say about a wall room thermostat why does this need to be fitted if there are trv,s fitted

Good question

Roomstat needed to comply with part L.
Could be that it shuts off the boiler at set temp whereas the Trvs only shut off the rads and the boiler would be constantly cycling.
See what the pros think. :D

Room stat provides the interlock so the boiler doesn't fire when no call for heat required, a room stat must be fitted when replaceing an existing boiler or when fitting a new system to comply with part l 2002, the room stat is fitted in the room which has no T/valve on the radiator.

More specifically this >>>

Boiler control interlocks
1.41 Gas and oil fired hot water central heating
system controls should switch the boiler off
when no heat is required whether control is by
room thermostats or by thermostatic radiator
valves:
a) The boiler in systems controlled by
thermostats should operate only when a space
heating or vessel thermostat is calling for heat.
b) Where it is proposed to effect control by
thermostatic radiator valves, a room thermostat
(or other device such as a flow switch) should
also be provided to switch off the boiler when
there is no demand for heating or hot water.

was in plumb center last week and a diy guy wanted to buy an interlock for his combi.so sales man sold him a time clock, kind of sounds the same i think.

er no, dont think so.

time switch says when it can come on, stat determines when it should stop/start acording to temp

Whats the point in having regulations if cowboys and diyers are just going to ignore them from ignorance or cheapness, may as well not have regs in the first place.

Merchants sell you things they want you to buy, NOT the things you need.
