Roundabout signage?

when I was learning to drive over 50 years ago my instructor always said if the exit you require is over 12o clock use the Rh lane if there is one
Driving instructors often use those simplified instructions for learner drivers. As you gain more experience you should instead follow the instructions in the highway code which essentially says:
Unless signs or road markings indicate otherwise:
Use the left hand lane if taking the first exit.
Use the right hand lane if taking an exit to the right or going full circle.
When taking any intermediate exit, choose the most appropriate lane.

The most appropriate lane for an intermediate exit is probably one which has fewer vehicles in it and will allow you to make good progress. Without seeing the layout of the roundabout that you are describing it is perfectly possible that either lane is appropriate when taking the second exit. It is very unlikely that the left hand lane is appropriate when taking the third exit.

And, whatever you do, do NOT take the LH lane then try to "overtake" the right-turner who is in the RH lane (like the chubby cow in the Audit TT tried on me, nr Lichfield).

Funnily enough, I thought of this thread when I came across a terrible....what turned out to be....mini roundabout, a few days ago.

It was a new area to me, so that did not help.

But, leading up to the actual roundabout, there were no signs at all regarding it on approach, and when you actually got there, it was just all very odd.

Initial approach, not a sign in sight.

Nearly at the give way, but the road condition is appalling and the lines are even less visible now. Your eyes are not even really drawn towards the tiny roundabout. Nor does there seem to be any give way lines on the entrance/exit to the right. It's so set back it is hard to tell if they are "on the roundabout" and have priority.

When you actually get to it, it did not feel like a roundabout at all. The wide angle of google maps makes it look better than it actually is.

Looking at it again in more detail, it seems like it might actually be a through road from the right hand entrance as i cant see any give way lines. The road diagonally across is a no-entry too.

So maybe it is some kind of quasi-mini-roundabout/island arrangement.

Only crap drivers use their horn.
It is required to use the horn or whistle before one starts to move any railway engine, with one or two exceptions where local residents have complained about the noise, where the railroad crosses or runs on a road, then also requires a bell to be rung, but this is rare in the UK.

So engine drivers have no option, but use horn if no whistle.

As to roundabouts, new one on A5 near to Oswestry, the route from Wrexham to Welshpool takes one on the same lane as to services, resulting in a very sharp turn on what otherwise would be a high speed roundabout. 1749383146914.png The road marking don't seem to make sense, this bit

is an accident waiting to happen, as road position seems to show those using the A 483 are going into the services if they follow the markings.
