I'm hoping there's an obvious solution to this.
Photo shows my very old and archaic but perfectly good router.
Notice the larger bits don't fit in the router due to the shank width.
Is there an obvious workaround here that does NOT involve me having to purchase a new tool?
Thanks for any help at all.

As above. Reading online 6.35mm 1/4 inch would fit only.

Bigger machines with take ½ and ¼ bits

''Collet'' was the word I was looking for. Thanks guys.
Looking at the tool it appears there are screw heads holding in the collet.
Is it beyond the realms of possibility to remove the existing collet and upgrade to one that will house a larger bit ?

Sometimes you can; but it doesn't look like a 1/2" collet would fit in there, it also needs to be able to compress enough to get tension.

Maybe just switch to 1/4" bits.

Also might not be poweful enough for (some) 1/2 inch bits, depends on what you're doing I suppose.
