Guys,

Is there anyway to tell whether an RSJ is graded S275 or S355 once installed?

Cheers in advance.

Hi Woody,

Thanks for getting back to me.
Builder is not responding to my calls so I am unable to obtain the receipt. I've spoken to BC who initially wanted proof steel is as per engineers design, however when I called them apparently they no longer need this even though no proof has been provided to them.

I wouldn't know where to begin regarding Xray fluorescence. Any advice? or perhaps an alternative suggestion.

Unless there are unusual or high-load conditions, the grade shouldn't make much difference.

Many councils don't need calculations for standard beams in typical domestic loading situations.

In simple terms this translates to any 8x4 or 7x4 of the lower grade steel being good for a typical job in a house up to certain spans.
