I have a hardwired samsung BT621VDST oven, it's been working fine but all of a sudden there is a red horizontal bar that appears. When I turn the knob onto "single" mode, nothing happens (the fan won't even turn on). Any advice?

Important - This problem started to occur when my son left 4 small plastic containers in the oven, then my wife turned on the oven to use it unaware the containers were on the bottom shelf. So melted plastic was everywhere, which I've mostly cleaned.

Troubleshooting steps:
1. Tried turning off the red isolator switch for 30 minutes then trying again.
2. Turned the circuit breaker switch off and on again.
3. Tried setting the clock.
4. Pressed the set cooking time button to see if I could change it, but nothing happens.
5. Upper mode, twin cooking, and lower mode works fine. It's just single mode that doesn't work.

Is the oven doomed? Do I need to consider buying a new one or is it repairable?

So do you mean the upper element does not heat up in single mode? If so does it heat up in the other modes or is it just that you don't get an indication of a fault.

yes it heats up in other modes, but it does not work or heat up in single mode. Nothing happens, even the fan doesn't turn on. There are no indications or official error codes popping up, only the red horizontal bar as pictured, which conveniently is not covered at all in the instruction manual. But I'm starting to think the red bar doesn't mean much, and there's some sort of electrical fault.

Yes it would seem like you have an elecrical fault which will probably need a visit from a suitably qualified engineer. Have you tried assuhors suggestion. It is detected by a sprung loaded switch which may have stuck.
