I’m looking to renovate a property we are buying and whilst I am most definitely going to hire a carpenter/joiner to install my new doors, I’m considering installing the skirting and architrave myself. I have done this before using a Taurus profile, but this is a Stepped II profile. The architrave is no problem, but what’s the correct approach for the skirting internal corners? I’m pretty good at DIY But want to ensure I create a professional finish. Are there any tools to support with this type of skirting?

Many thanks, Chris

Just like any skirting, for the internal corner, just mitre one end at 45 degrees and coping saw off.

I use the Scribe Master Pro when doing a full house but if just the odd internal corner, I still do it the standard way.

CSutton, good evening.

As Bonni, above a scribe could be best way ahead.

Try U Tube and look for "Scribing timber joints"

The scribe will take care of any Off Square aspects of the wall that the skirting is being fixed against.

Thanks for the advice chaps. I have a whole house to do so may well look to purchase a Scribe Master Pro. I’m presuming it works just as well with square profile skirting?

Well I guess its limited by the radius of the router cutter that you use. (Not that I’ve ever seen, let alone used, one.)

I would have thought that your very square pattern would be easy to do with a jigsaw or handsaw, with some sort of jig perhaps.

They're about £300, plus you need the router. If you're doing skirting and picture rails often, it's worth the money. Does all shapes.

As one of the comments made above, you could just mitre at 45 degrees and cut the waste of with a hand saw as everything is square.

Thanks, had never heard of that before. I don't do enough skirting to justify the cost though.

Neither do I..... For the vast majority of volume work I use a Collins Coping Foot mounted on a body grip jigsaw (and with a Bosch T244D blade)

Way faster than a coping saw on solid oak cornices I can tell you. Had mine about 12 years (about the age of that photo, too)
