Sensible policies: Smoking banned for life

As an ex smoker from way back who grew up when it was 'cool' to smoke, this is one of the bits of 'state interference' that I believe is justified...

Whether it works is another matter, as every 'war on drugs' has failed!

That might be why smoking is down to only 12%, there has never been a war on it, just an increasing sense it's stupid, unhealthy , smelly and expensive.

a stupid ban like that would very much tempt me to take it up again - folk should be allowed to smoke if they want as long as it is outdoors or in there own space

I worked for a government minister about 35 years ago, he told me that the government could stop people smoking over night by making a packet of cigarettes £25.00. (At the time they were about £2.00 per packet)
He then spent the next 30 minutes saying that it was his thoughts and nothing to do with the government. Me thinks this was discussed with people higher up.

I'm of the opinion people eating themselves to death is just as bad. Although now I think of it I know more that drank themselves to death.
I don't agree with a ban on what people want to do though. I do agree they should be taxed though to support the NHS. Doubt money will go for that though

Does this ban include the smoking of cannabis?

Daft question I know, because it is already banned, although not enforced.

But as this proposed smoking ban is a lefty policy, and most lefties want cannabis legalised, would the proposed smoking ban clash with the proposed legalisation of cannabis?

How are they going to check peoples age? Will everyone in years to come who looks like they might have been born around that time or after be asked to provide ID? Or is it assumed it will be checked via national ID linked to all financial transactions people make?
