Shamima Begum Loses Latest Citizenship Appeal

No, not to apply, it is automatic. It is why she was found not be stateless when her British citizenship was removed.

"The Commission in G3 (para 70) held that the aforesaid provisions make it manifest that citizenship by descent in Bangladesh arises at birth. This interpretation is also supported by the use of the phrases ‘shall be a citizen of Bangladesh by descent’ and ‘person claiming citizenship by descent’ in Section 5 of the Citizenship Act 1951 and Rule 9 of the Bangladesh Citizenship Rules 1952 respectively. Therefore, a person is automatically a citizen of Bangladesh at birth if either of his or her parents is a Bangladeshi citizen by birth (i.e. was born in Bangladesh)."

But all the same Bangladesh govt have basically denied she is a citizen and would refuse anyway

What you are saying is she has Bangladesh citizenship, but the govt say otherwise, she can’t get a passport or access to Bangladesh.

She may be theoretically a citizen of Bangladesh, but in practice not

Yes, but all we (UK courts) can do is pronounce judgement on the law as it stands. She was found not to be stateless as Bangladeshi law is that clear that citizenship is, in her case, automatic at birth.

Bangladeshi law says that but of course it doesn't stop Bangladesh saying or doing whatever they want.

Bangladesh is just as free to say that she has British citizenship, as Britain is to say that she has Bangladesh citizenship.

It was a race to withdraw her passport fist, without rendering her 'stateless'. The UK won. Stateless in this instance is meaningless. No one will admit her through their ports, no matter what.

Nah, not even Hook Hand would want to tap her one.

Did she make a voluntary choice to leave the country with others and make a trip to another country to meet up with those that 'groomed' her and then try to come back when it all turned to shìt?

A 19 year old begum in BBC interview, no mention of being groomed, no remorse, said she knew the decision was hers, no right minded person would stand up for this piece of human excrement.
