According to the government unemployment is at a historic low.
So if most people are in work were are we going to find all these extra workers.

According to the government unemployment is at a historic low.

does that include all the people who are out of work, and those in part-time or gig employment who would like a real job? and those who have given up looking? and those not entitled to benefits? and those school leavers and recent graduates with poor NI contribution records? and SAH parents seeking to re-enter employment?

or does it just include those who are claiming AND RECEIVING jobseekers dole? Which is a much smaller number.

The flipside of that coin - how many of the unfilled vacancies are for full-time permanent positions with guaranteed hours at a decent wage?

Every taxpayer out to be p****d off with subsidising businesses which will not employ people on a proper basis.

That’s true. The sort of people who could fill those positions are those who are used to being treated badly and live ten to a one-bedroom flat but Brexit has largely got rid of them. It’s time for businesses to start realising the cheap foreign workers that can be abused are not here any more.

Aldi have just increased HGV driver wages to £18.41 an hour which turns on it's head, the claim made by many on here that cheap labour from the EU have held down wages.
I was talking to the mother of a local potato farmer yesterday, they've had no real problems with staffing other than a little difficulty finding a forklift driver. She agreed with me that post covid many people simply do not want to return to work.

Brexit could be a catalyst for change in the EU.
A lot of these EU workers who have tasted the good life while working in the UK, may demand the same standards in their home countries when they leave the UK
They might be less tolerant of corruption having witnessed the exemplary behavior of British politicians, or then again maybe not.

Tell mottie and bodd, they were convinced. However, we all know its the Tories and their wealthy billionaire chums that are responsible for crap wages.

And they might be less tolerant of racism in their own countries having been on the receiving end of it here.

Believe me, as someone who has spent a lot of time in former Soviet Bloc countries (CZ, Poland, Hungary, etc) they can learn nothing from us. These countries are still civilised countries who haven't yet sold their soles for consumerism and have largely safe and law abiding indigenous populations. UK may have more baubles and consumer trinkets (flashy new cars, hot tubs, granite topped kitchens, 97" TVs - billshut like this), but it's a crowded, expensive, boring multi-cultural s**t hole by comparison.

Just how limited in imagination, thinking, creativity, and outlook does someone have to be to describe a society with a multiplicity of cultures as"boring"?
