Hello

I have 2 separate lights both connected by the same light switch. One has 2 red wires and a black wire

The other has 2 black wires and a red.

How should these be connected to each light. The light fittings only have 2 connections. Thanks.

The photos are here.
There are 4 lights in the room.
One pair is working fine.
They are operated by the switch on the left as you look at the switch from the room side. The other pair ( not working) have 2 black wires and one red. Maybe one brown sleeved. Can you advise.

One picture of wiring at lighting position is out of focus and is not clear enough to determine anything.
Your written description of wire colours present is contradictory. Your original post and your last one are different descriptions of wires present.
Show us a clear pic please.
Do you have any voltage testing instruments ?

Thanks for the quick response
No voltage testing gear.
Will send clearer pics later today or tomorrow. Thanks.

Hi is this more helpful.
Basically the 2 gang switch operates 2 pairs of lights.
One pair is working fine. Simple one black one red wire. The other pair is not as easy.
Thanks

One pic shows two black and one red ,with a terminal block into which there is an indistinguishable sheathing over the conductors . Does that terminal block contain the earth conductors ,which are bare copper within the outer sheathing ?
Do your new light fittings require an earth connection ?

The new fittings do not need earth connection..
I will take the indistinguishable sheating off this weekend and see if it is the earth.
Doesc it make it easier if it is the earth cable ?
Thanks again.....
