Hi all,

I'm currently installing plastic soffits and facias for a new bungalow roof, and I was thinking it might be a good idea to install soffit lights, as the soffit is open and it would be dead easy to do it now!

So I have some questions:

1. Do I choose IP44 or IP56?
2. Led or halogen, 12V or 240V
3. Finishes - if the fitting corrode in the future do I have to rip the soffit off to get to them?
4. Would you space evenly or avoid putting them over windows?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Just don't have them bright. Nothing worse than downlighters showing up all the imperfections on the brickwork. Maybe halogen.

I just installed in a house arround 100 soffit lights (very large house)

but make sure you do not make it to bright, otherwize it will look like a spaceship taking off

is there enough room between your soffit and to top of your window?

Put them on a timer, or night to dawn switch

Or put them on a double ring, so you switch every other one. (will reduce costs

We went for 240 with then 2w Leds

You need to do every corner (not actually on the corner but about 40 to 60 cm away from the corner). then above every window. then space evenly (it takes a bit of calculation to get the layout perfect

The result will look very nice

although uplighters are nicer. as so many people do soffit lights these days
