some good news

'News' is a product, and as such, how it is reported is driven by viewer ratings and paper sales - not soppy notions of class. The tabloids are often sneered at as working class papers, yet even they covered more of the Maddie case, because - like it or not - the story is more 'juicy'.

Look at the Harold Shipman coverage compared to Fred West. Harold Shipman slayed many more than Fred West, but it was just a grey old man 'putting to sleep' grey old women. No sex, no sleaze. Boring. Hence less coverage.

We are the consumers - we only get what they think we want, and they are usually right.
