Yeah, sorry. Need to check my sources!

Three years, with 2 suspended...

And the appeal, which could take years, means he remains free until then. Might even serve a year in his own house under house arrest. Some punishment. Bloody French!

Being locked indoors with Carla Bruni for a year, what sort of punishment is that?

According to the French security services Sarkozy or his party got a secret 50million bung from Gaddafi.
Wasn't Sarkozy a good mate of Blair, maybe Blair is getting worried, there was something very iffy about his dealings with Gaddafi.
Blair has never explained why he never persued Gaddafi for compensation for the British victims of the Lockerbie bombing and others acts of terrorism in the UK where Libyan supplied Semtex was used.
The American victims were all compensated but as AFAIK the British victims still haven't been compensated.
Sarkozy is another example of the pro EU elite lining their pockets.

For him to spend his punishment under house arrest seems economical, logical and civilised.
What possible benefit would it do to keep him in prison for that time. It could simply serve to radicalise him, and serve no other purpose.
His real punishment is the loss of reputation. It's far more important than any prison sentence.
