Our consumer unit is a Wylex from ~2010 and uses NHXSBS1B'X' RCBOs.

We have an unused NHXSBS1B40 wired off to a junction box that I'd hoped to use for an EV charger but apparently that will be a no-go because the NHXSBS1B40 is single pole.

Is there a 'drop in' DP equivalent of this RCBO that will be compatible with my existing CU or am I looking at a new CU?

Thanks.

Just spoke to Wylex tech support (who were brilliant). Apparently the NHXS1B40 will drop in as a replacement.

surprised its an X from 2010

I thought an EV would require another type of RCD anyway, so SP least of the issues

It seems EV chargers need to be installed by some one with the correct credentials to get the special low rates. So likely needs fitting by Octopus or the like.

They have strict rules which means they will be unlikely to use your existing consumer unit however it is configured.

So not worth doing anything to the existing set up. As unlikely it will be used.

If Octopus do whole installation they will give you special rates, so although independent electricians may be permitted to fit the outlet, it is simply not in your interest to use them.

Yes, it is an unfair practice, but not much anyone can do about it.

Entirely untrue.

To obtain cheap rates for electric vehicle charging with Octopus and others, the requirement is to have an electric vehicle, and in some cases an EVSE and/or vehicle which is compatible with their systems.
Who installs the EVSE is unrelated.

Neighbors had a hyper volt installed by a local sparkie at half the price of octopus. Nice looking charger with 10 metre cable as they can’t get any nearer. Artisan doesa good install video on TT.
