I just removed two (same poster) the last line said USA / Canada only.

Why do they bother?

When registering you only require a unique username, password, email address and enter the confirmation code. As soon as these are entered the account appears to become active. There is nothing sent to the email address which requires the user to verify their email address as genuine, only a welcome to DIYnot email.
