You do not need a hard border to end freedom of movement. people can come and go and still not be permitted to live and work in a place.

Entry from foreign countries without visa, passport or border controls.
Lorry loads of goods from foreign countries. No customs or food safety checks.

None of these things require a hard border.
I think a hard border is more about security, and preventing the movement of undesirable goods, services or people. It alone cannot prevent people living and working in countries that they have no valid entitlement to do so.
Freedom of movement (to travel), and the fundamental freedom to live and work, as enshrined in the EU, are not the same. Many countries have reciprocal visa-free travel agreements. Ireland and UK have exactly that with the CTA. But the CTA does not require the absence of a hard border.
A Free Trade Agreement can allow freedom of movement of goods (and services) without the freedom of movement of people.
So Brexit could align with the Single Market for goods and services only. ("Align with" is not the same as "being in") That would be a customs union.
Except TM's red lines is outside of the single market, outside of the Customs Union, no jurisdiction of ECJ..

However the four fundamental freedoms of the EU does allow the growth of economies because resources can more easily meet demands.

If the EU and the UK were intending to create a customs union, there would be no problem with the current backstop, because it would never be implemented.

The US is now saying the UK must honour the Belfast Agreement (GTA), or there will be no post-Brexit trade deal (or will be difficult):

Surely if the UK stays in the customs union to maintain the GTA, then we won't be able to go out and get our own trade deals? So how does that make sense?

Oh wait, this is Brexit.

I don't think the CTA, nor the GFA requires the absence of border controls. It's more about the spirit and cohesion of society that requires the absence of border controls.

Tusk is very sorry for his hell comments..Finally dawning on him and remoaners,,, brexit is happening..Soon.

They have a cunning plan.

Remainers never had a plan

Poor Dum typed "Remainers" when he meant "Brexers"

Brexers don't like it when people point out that they don't have a clue.
