I could understand it, if it were a motorist who had done the deed, but a motorcyclists?

These are the guys that treat cameras that take a front view of the vehicle, with impunity, knowing they will not be caught because they don't have a front numberplate to be identified by.
If the law is to be applied then it should apply equally to all.

Get on a bike then and you can behave the same way.. .

Actually, lack of numberplate notwithstanding, the plod can and do catch some by forensic investigation. Hence why more than one set of kit is a must....

Notice that both cameras are on what appears to be open stretches of road. I.e not outside a school , hospital , old folks home etc etc.

I wouldn't mind if they were for safety, but they patently are not. They are a cash cow for the government, and should by rights be decorated with pound signs not yellow paint.

You dont know this. Perhaps the stretch of road is dangerous. I know of a few open stretches of road round here that I consider to be very dangerous, and would welcome the introduction of speed cameras.

And the only danger outside schools is parents. Parking their cars everywhere, letting their kids run riot all over the place. Speed doesn't kill outside schools, parents do. Though of course, the motorist would always be to blame.

Ahh yes, the old rubber necklace; someone did the same thing to one near me on the A140; they still haven’t replaced it. They’ve got some nerve hanging around for so long with all that passing traffic!

Obviously I can only comment on my local area. And bear in mind I live in North Wales, home of the 'Traffic Taliban'.

We have more traffic cameras than anywhere else in the UK. I can categorically state that I have not seen any cameras at any well known local blackspots. The siting of them seems to have no bearing on safety whatsoever.

Your comment regarding schools is nonsense. I agree that parents 4x4's are a pain and potentially dangerous , but no more dangerous than the loons that race past my daughters school whilst most of the 1500 pupils try to cross the road.

Leaving revenue aside , speed cameras are a waste of time. Which is probably why Swindon have decided to do what they have.

Replaced what Rich', the speed camera, or the "rubber necklace"?

Roughcaster.

setting fire to a tyre on a speed camera does it no harm, so its a waste of time. they are desinged to be vandle proof, how ever they are not designed to be tin of spray paint proof.

most gatso speed cameras tale the picture from behind so the motorcylist can get done

clicky

oh I beg to differ. click on vadalised gatsos.

Speed cameras are a cheap, pathetic knee-jerk reactionary measure by a lazy administration that doesn't know or care any more than to be "seen to be doing something". Their presence on our roads coincides with declining driving standards and, far from "making roads safer", a falloff in the decline of accidents (measured through KSI- killed/seriously injured)

burn all the greed camera's! they are a stealth tax to pay for the police pensions and pay rises.
