Hello All
New to this forum and sorry if this has been posted before, I have a built summerhouse, solid walls and the wife now wants power installed. What the best way of running cable round the wall?

I thought maybe i could use glued conduit on the outside to hide the cables so we don't have to see anything other that the sockets inside?

Any thoughts on the best and safest way?

What will you be using the sockets for? Have you worked out the maximum demand?

How far is it from the house to the summerhouse?

How will you get a cable between the two? What type, and how/where installed?

How will you supply the summerhouse? Does the supply you'll use have an RCD?

Will conduit glued to the outside of the building look better than seeing cables or conduit inside? What about lighting - are you going to glue conduit to the roof?

How do you know the glue will last? How would you waterproof the conduit system? How would you waterproof all of the holes in the walls?

Why are you planning to use cable which needs to be in conduit?

Which UK country do you live in?

Quite honestly, given your question, I don't think you are up to the job of designing, installing, and testing a supply to an outbuilding - I'd urge you to get an electrician.

Wow, thanks for your prompt reply and your comprehensive comments.
I have already got the consumer unit and wiring scheme worked out, i was just looking for some ideas on the best way of getting the cable into and around the summerhouse.

You get it in by drilling a hole, and you get it around by channelling the walls much like you would in a house.

Do you actually need a CU?

You can use conduit on the outside, but would be better fixed with screws rather than glue.
I wondered about that ... do you think that's what the OP means, rather than that he intends to use plastic conduit with glued joints?

Kind Regards, John

So sorry guys, i guess i should explain myself a little better.
Our Summerhouse has solid wooden walls only no cavity or plaster. Not wanting to distract from putting either trunking or conduit on the inside, i was planning on using plastic circular conduit with glued joints on the outside with the circular inspection joints for access into the house, then fill the entry hole with silicon.
Not the best idea I know. I was Just wondering if there was a more elegant solution that i could use inside.

Thanks for clarifying. As I wrote, I suspected that's what you meant (rather that gluing the conduit to the outside of the building!)

Yes thanks John, would use conduit clips to retain it to the outside. Someone here mentioned false skirting that you can run cables behind. Might be a better option. Will have a look and report back.
