I have been doing a private job for a shop owner and now the job is completed (25 new flourescents and new ring) test certificate coming but a friend in work swears that you do not need to test a shop.... i disagree, its just a different form needed that the domestic installation NICEIC forms.

Is this correct or don't you need to test shops?

Any response much appreciated thanks :)

An EIC is an EIC is an EIC. The regs is the regs is the regs.

And 7671 asks for certification.

Uh no EIC as per appendix 6 of Brown book - applicable for domestic, commercial and industrial installations.

you should test all installs, comercial no exception. I think you mate is confused and not to switched on when it comes to the regs.
You dont have to notify to building control maybe thats the confusion.

Unless it shares a common supply with a domestic dwelling.

You possibly will use a different form

If you normally issue domestic installation certificates, then this is not sufficient. You need to use a (non domestic) electrical installation certificate.

Are you a full NICEIC member or just a DI?

My company is a full member i am yet to ask the boss if he will put a certificate on the work for me! lets hope otherwise ill have to get the council out :(

no just the shop. there is a flat above but that had nothing to do with the installation i touched. There is 2 separate supplies for the shop and the flat

unless the shop owner needs a niciec certificate for maybe insurance purposes then if you are competent with a tester and have access to one (which you should if your doing this sort of work on the side.) download the certificates from the iet website and issue a iec.

Hello,
If you have changed this circ's parameters then does it not need to be tested ? It doesn't matter where it is, it still got to work properly and comply with certain criteria ?

course not, i performed all the tests to 7671 but as i am not a certified i wrote down all results but i cant self certify. I have seriously checked my work there is nothing wrong but i understand your worry but its ok :)

I just need it "signed off"

why does he need a niceic cert? If you did the work you can issue the cert. Like i said you only need the nic cert if the client is stipulating it. Getting in touch with the council will not help as they only cover domestic work.
