Im newish to this. Please advise the trade method to cutting a shelf for a space where I have a un even space. Say for example all for sides ar different lengths.

Simplest and safest way is a cardboard template. You can Sellotape bits on as necessary.

I would measure all sides. Transfer onto a cardboard template and then cut that cardboard to those measurements. Tweaking it as you go.

Once it fits perfectly, use that template to mark and cut the wooden shelf..

Measure the back dimensions/length of the alcove.

Transfer those dimensions to your shelf.

Take two bits of 2 by 1 timber. Put a screw in the end. Offer it up to the first corner. Tighten up the screw. Transfer the first angle to the shelf and draw a pencil line. Do the same at the other end (using the same technique).

If the back wall has a bow in it, do the above but leave each end slightly overlength. Offer the shelf up, tilt it and use a pencil to follow the profile of the back wall. Then use a belt sander or jigsaw depending on how much material you need to remove.
