I tried to ring the DWP Pension Service, to have them amend my bank details, to a new bank. After 30 minutes faffing about press 1, press 3, press 997, it played a message saying they close at 3pm, try doing it online, I then started doing it online, without an account, wasted another 30 minutes filling details in, and at the end, it said I wasn't yet entitled to use the service.

So I spent another 30 minutes setting up an account, got all the details in, then it passes the test of validity, onto some credit reference agency to check your details in greater detail.. It then asked me a series of questions about when I last opened a phone contract, when I last opened a new bank account, passed those questions, then...... It listed around five different addresses, and asked me which of them I had been associated with recently, but no option to select 'none of them'. I've lived at this address, for the last 40 years, and didn't recognise any of the offered addresses - should I be worried?

No. Just answer the question, they are trying to catch a scammer out.

Apart from giving a deliberately incorrect answer, how could Harry have answered them?

I'm not following your logic on this one.
Ah, didn’t see the option for 'none'! I was sure I’d had a similar question with no correct answer like that in the past and I seem to remember there was a 'none of these' box to tick.

I just ran through it again, and it offered a different set of addresses, again none matched, and no 'none' option. It was the TransUnion UK site, it transferred me to, to validate myself.

Have you tried writing to them, it might be quicker

It's called progress Harry ;)

I was doing something online last year, can't even remember what now, and as part of the process I got a few questions like 'what did you buy on the 8th August 2006 at 16.24 hours and what bank account did you use to make the purchase?' Needless to say I thought feck this and gave up.

There's security processes that are robust but useable, and those that aren't.

I was paying for our Range Rover on a debit card and they phoned up and asked me similar questions to that as well as what is the name of the road opposite your house.

I managed to get through to the DWP Pensions, fairly quickly, on the phone, this morning. That's now sorted as well, and a nice surprise this morning, in the Kroo account, it had its first batch of interest added - opened the account last Thursday, and the interest for four days, will easily pay for a meal out for two.
